Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026

Kalorimetre ("the app", "we") values your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we process it, who we share it with, and what your rights are. By using the app you accept this policy.

1. Data We Collect

Account informationYour email address or Apple/Google sign-in identity (only if you create an account). You can also use the app as a "guest" without signing in.
Nutrition dataThe foods you log, calories and nutrition values, water intake, your goals, and recipes.
Health dataWith your permission: steps, active calories and weight (via Apple Health / Android Health Connect). This data is never read unless you grant permission.
PhotosPlate photos you take for analysis. Photos are processed solely for food recognition.
Device informationAnonymous device identifier, app version, crash/performance data, and advertising identifier (in the free version).

2. Why We Process Data

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following providers to deliver the service; each is subject to its own privacy policy:

Google Gemini (AI)Processes your plate photo for analysis. Photos are sent for analysis only and are not retained for model training.
SupabaseCloud infrastructure where your account and data are stored. Servers are located in the European Union (Frankfurt) and data is encrypted.
RevenueCatManages premium subscription status (the purchase itself happens via App Store / Google Play).
Google AdMobDisplays ads in the free version. Uses the advertising identifier.
Apple HealthKit / Google Health ConnectHealth data sync (only with your explicit permission; runs on your device).

Health data commitment: Data read from Apple Health / Health Connect is never used for advertising and is never sold to third parties.

4. AI Consent and Withdrawing Consent

AI features (recognising food from a photo, voice entry, recipe analysis and the nutrition assistant Betty) run only with your explicit consent. No data is sent to Google Gemini before consent is requested.

The consent screen is shown before the first AI use and states clearly what data will be sent, who it is sent to, and why. If you do not consent, you can keep using the app: food search, barcode scanning, quick calories and manual entry all work without AI.

You can withdraw your consent at any time: App → Settings → Privacy and AIWithdraw Consent. From that moment no new AI request is sent; this is enforced both on your device and on our server, so a request would be rejected even if it reached the server. Withdrawing consent does not affect the non-AI features of the app.

If the type of data sent, the recipient, or the purpose of processing changes, the consent text is updated and your consent is requested again; an earlier consent is not carried over automatically.

5. Data That Is Never Sent to AI

The following are never sent to the AI provider:

These calculations are performed on your device. Only the content you provide for the feature you are using is sent: the photo you take, the audio you record, the text you type or the ingredients you enter.

6. Third-Party Protection

The third-party service providers with whom we share data are subject to applicable data protection law and to their own published terms of service and privacy policies. We select these providers on the basis that they process data only on our instructions and for the purpose of delivering the requested service, and we require them to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection as described in this Privacy Policy.

For current information about a provider's own practices, please refer to their terms directly. We do not make commitments on a provider's behalf beyond what their own policies state; this section describes our selection and contractual obligations.

7. Data Retention and Security

8. Your Rights (GDPR & KVKK)

Under the GDPR and Turkish Law No. 6698 (KVKK), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, port, and object to the processing of your data. You may contact us to exercise these rights. You can also delete your account and data from within the app.

9. Children's Privacy

Kalorimetre is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you in the app about significant changes. The current version is always available on this page.
