How do I turn on SMS filtering on iOS?

Settings → Apps → Messages → Unknown & Spam → SMS Filtering → KALKAN. Until this step is done, iOS does not hand any message to the app.

Why doesn't the app say "protection active"?

iOS gives apps no way to check whether the message filter is currently enabled. KALKAN will not claim something it cannot verify, so it reports the setup state instead. This is intentional.

Why does Android ask KALKAN to be the default SMS app?

Android requires it in order to quarantine a message before it reaches your inbox. You can remove the role at any time in system settings.

A legitimate message was blocked

Use "Not spam" in quarantine to restore it and add the sender to your allow list. That correction stays on your device.
